Hello, you wonderful bunch!
In case you couldn’t tell already from the excessive amount of photos on my Instagram, it was my 21st birthday on the 22nd of September. WOOT WOOT.
So to mark the occasion and milk my birthday even more than I have already, I figured it’s only right to write a blog about it.
Usually, when people ask me what I want for my birthday I never know, but this year I asked for a “2” and a “1” balloon and a bath tray. I know what you’re thinking, 21 going on 90. Well, I’m 90 and proud BABEH.
To start the day, I put my alarm on for 5:30 (I wish I was kidding) as I always feel like my birthday flies by, and the next thing I know it’s over. When I woke up, my boyfriend Alex had two rose gold balloons for me which spelt out “21” and took me on a real life Disney quest which lead me around the house following clues to a chest, where I found out I’m going to bloomin’ Disneyland Paris for New Year’s Eve! At that moment, my soul died right there and then.
Now, you can imagine my excitement, I squealed, danced, jumped up and down, questioned Alex if it was real and then proceeded to squeal some more. For those wondering, it still hasn’t sunk in and I don’t think it ever will. I can’t thank Alex enough and I’m beyond grateful for this as I was always filled with false hope and empty promises from my Dad who doesn’t bother with me, one of those promises he used to make was to take me to Disneyland but Alex made that promise a reality. Even if those clues lead me to a yogurt pot, it’s the thought process and time that went into printing out the clues and dotting them around the house that I’m appreciative of, so if you’re reading this.. thank you baby!
After the most amazing news ever, I somehow managed to get ready. Alex and I headed off to the Great British Cupcakery in Newcastle, which was insane and has the most aesthetically pleasing everything. For breakfast, I had the Ariel Mermaid Waffle which was AMAZE! It was a waffle drenched in strawberry ice cream, vanilla ice cream, meringues, rainbow drops and all the childhood sweets you could think of. What’s a birthday without stuffing your face with sugary goods, eyyy?
After spending a couple of hours in the cafe, Alex wanted to take me to a Build a Bear Workshop as I’ve always wanted a bear from there. After picking my bear, the whole process of making him was so cute! I was asked if it was a boy or a girl and if I had a name for him, I pumped stuffing into him, gave him a heart that I had to warm up in my hands and even picked a scent for him. I picked “Cupcake” as I thought it was only right and quite fitting for the occasion. As you can tell already, I decided he was a boy and I named him “Ozzy”, I even got to make his birth certificate (My heart aches). He got a Happy Birthday Tee as well because after all, it was his birthday too and then I got him some lil dungarees to hide his modesty.
By this point, it was already around 2-3pm so I spent a couple of hours with my family and friends and then headed off to the hall where I was having my birthday movie night that myself and Alex planned.
It was all planned very last minute as Alex originally wanted to organise a surprise roller skate disco party for me as I’ve always wanted one, but a company quoted him 3 grand for it (Yup, our thoughts exactly). Naturally, Alex panicked and told me the original plan he had and how he was worried of what to do since there was only a week left until my birthday, so we came up with a movie night idea instead. It consisted of a lot of rushing around after work, going to Asda for throws, grabbing old bed sheets, getting next day delivery for a big batch of Hollywood themed props and all that jazz but we couldn’t have been prouder of what we put together.
For my 18th I had a big birthday party, but for my 21st I just wanted to be with my oldest and dearest. I invited around 12 people but a few were not able to make it due to it being a very last minute invitation (I love you all) so in the end, there were 7 of us including me and Alex and I couldn’t have wished for anything more. We watched one of my favourite films Grease on a projector, accompanied by popcorn, plenty of sweets and the best company.
Although most 21 year olds would be most excited for alcohol, trust me over here to be most excited for the DIY cupcake section we made. It consisted of plain cupcakes on a cake stand with red and white icing tubes, sprinkles, chocolate chips and marshmallows that everyone could use to design their own cupcakes.
Once Grease finished and we stuffed our faces, we had a big ol’ nerf gun fight, being the nerds we are and ran around the hall shooting each other! I nearly had a few nip slips but somehow, came out alive (Thank god for that!).
As you can see, I also jumped on the birthday bandwagon finally and got to whack a piñata which was as thrilling as I thought it would be. Just a side note that no humans were harmed in the making of this, although my facial expressions say otherwise.
To top off the night, we had a photo booth section which had film posters of my all time favourite films and if you know me well enough, it won’t come as a surprise to you that they are all pretty much musicals but hey, I didn’t do performing arts for nothing! In one of the shots, we thought it would be really cool to turn off the lights and take photos with glow sticks but it’s safe to say, it wasn’t as cool and artsy as we had hoped.
Also, in classic Becca Martin fashion, I ended up snapping the glow stick and it leaked all over my hand, hence the luminous yellow mark on EVERY. SINGLE. PHOTO. Anyways, enough babbling from me… enjoy some “candid” shots of me and my wee friends!
I know what you’re thinking… the next Destiny’s Child maybe? Or even the Cheeky Girls? Where do we sign up!
It wouldn’t be a photo of Philly without a Fosters in her hand and as much as she’d like this to be sponsored, it isn’t. Sorry to crush your dreams Phills </3
When someone tells me to lay off the chicken nuggets…
THE THREE MUSKETEERS, DUN DUN NA NA
Nice nips, Tom.
Looking back at my 21st, it was honestly such a lovely day, filled with laughter and good memories to hold on to with friends that I can gladly call family.
I’d just like to make a shoutout to the pain in my backside, Phillippa for fulfilling my old woman needs and buying my bath tray and also a HUGE thank you once again to my boyfriend Alex for making this whole day happen, you made it so very special! Look who the cheese ball is now.
Don’t worry, I’m going to stop talking soon so you can get rid of me but lastly, thank you to my family and friends for all your kind words, cards and presents, it’s greatly appreciated and far too much for a little Geordie gal like myself!
P.S. Can’t wait to bloody look back at this in a few years time and reminisce over what being 21 was like again… HAHA.
Anyways, until next time!
All the love,
Becca’s Bubble xo
